The future of Rancho Cucamonga is looking brighter than ever thanks to the city’s award winning sustainability action plans. The plans serve as a roadmap for advancing environmental sustainability with a triple bottom line approach with a focus on the environment, the economy, and public health and equity. It is an honor that Rancho Cucamonga’s city workers are grateful to receive. Their desire to meet the public’s needs inspired them to reach out to the community before getting started in August of 2013 when Rancho was first awarded a sizable grant from the Southern California Association of Governments or SCAG, which promotes progress in the area of sustainability and the environment.
SCAG recognized Rancho Cucamonga’s plan with its prestigious Green Region award in the Innovation in Green Community Planning category. Energy efficiency, water conservation, waste and recycling, land use, green buildings, and transportation all contribute to a green city. The Inland Empire Section of the American Planning Association also honored Rancho Cucamonga’s action plan with the Innovation in Green Community Planning award.
Another win is for the city’s economic health that can be attributed to the Sustainability Action Plan. One such business is XT Green who is supplying jobs while they recycle. The company recycles all types of carpet with their patented Ultra Clean technology to improve the community.
The efforts of the city today are already benefitting Rancho Cucamonga’s future with new green installations such as two megawatts worth of solar panels and street lights with energy saving LED lights. The action plan will continue to thrive, and inspire greater progress towards a better tomorrow!
